    1996 150 ProV Oil alarm

Bought a new to me boat this fall with a 96 150 ProV. I've only had it out one weekend since I picked it up and ran it for 3 days with no problems at all. Motor ran really strong and pushed the boat (96 Eyra) to 61 with no problems. The boat itself needed a lot of cleanup (rigging compartment especially) so I haven't had it out of the garage in a month and a half. Pulled it out today to throw it on the muffs and fog and winterize. Anyway, started up fine and let it idle for a while and it was pretty smokey but I kind of expected that because all of my previous carbed motors (all Mercs) always smoked a lot. Once it came up to temp though the oil alarm and warning indicator on the digital dash came on. Plenty of oil in both the reservoirs in the rigging compartment and the little one on the motor (that one was at the "full" line). The smoke was pretty thick and blueish, almost like it was over oiling. Can that happen? I'm not familiar at all really with Yamahas this is my first one, all my other motors have been Mercs. Thanks. Mike

could have been getting hot too and burning off oil in the exhaust. might be a good idea to check you water pump or the intakes on the inlet side on the lower unit.
