Do you remember buying your first bass boat or the dream machine?

This is a good example of what I was hearing:

No one at the dealer could know just how loud this was.

I was reading a few "my new or new 2 me rig posts" and reflected myself.

For me.......It wasnt a song. It was a sunrise, the sound of slight chop on the water slapping the hull at 70. The sound of the wind and a face full of bugs! AND then the sound of my voice saying I will take it!!! Funny how when you are on the water. You can hear a bass boat coming and not even have to turn around and look to make sure!!

I was so excited. When i left the dealer I drove about 75 miles to the Ohio river to go fishing. I had my son with me. We both loved it. That was in 1982. Befor that I had a 12 ft. V-hull with a 5.5 evinrude on it.

I had a 3 hour drive back home after picking up my first boat/bassboat. Just looking thru the rear-view mirror and seeing MY boat back there gave me the greatest feeling! That picture and feeling are burned into my brain.

Same for me I have had a boat for years and always wanted a bigger boat that my 17 foot ranger R series. I loved the Comanache series boats and always dreamed of owning one but my job and bills makes it a dream till December 2010 when I found a 2001 518 DVX Ranger in fantastic like new shape in my price range and I had a 17 hour drive to get it and a long 17 hour drive home looking in the reav view mirror home but has a huge on my face all the way home.

Re: Do you remember buying your first bass boa ... (racefan)

I remember the day I was hooked on the sound as much as the day when after 15 years of saving I bought my first bass boat.

The day I got hooked I was fishing a club tournament on the Ct river 20 miles south of Hartford. A friend of mine was running a Pro level open Tournament out of Hartford the same time as us. 15 minutes into the morning and I could hear the thunder approaching. It took about another 3 or 4 minutes before the first boat came by followed by a half dozen more. The noise echoing in the valley as the boats moved south towards us was the coolest sound Id ever heard.

granted, my first boat was in 2005, but i still remember it. Driving down to north carolina in my s10. Owner said he towed it all the time with his s10 - well he failed to mention it was a 4.3 and not the 2.2 Hooked it up, and all I thought was I hope this thing actually moves. It pulled pretty easy - I remember stopping every hour or so to get gas and just walk around and look at the boat - funny how it took 5 hours to get down there and 9 to get back . Lived at home at the time, and I remember backing into the driveway and dad coming out saying all he saw was a boat - he couldnt see the truck

Re: Do you remember buying your first bass boa ... (Javelin389)

When I first bought it, took me awhile to get out of the shock of all the dang paper work I had to sign. lol, it was the first real purchase I had made and I was also trading in a boat so at 18 it fealt like I would never get out of there. I was with my dad and I called my buddy and he met us 20 minutes away for a boat ride. lol, motor didn't start right away and I ran the battery dead so it took another 30 minutes to get jumper cables and get it going. lol, I never thought I'd get to run that thing and when I finally did my dad was so scared I never did get to open her up. lol, I don't think I slept for a couple weeks. Sometimes, I'd just go outside and sit in, hardly could believe it was actually mine.

I found a pic of my first rig the other day. After a couple of years of renting little boats from MWR on base you're darn right I was singing that song when I drug her home. Seems like I paid a whopping 1200.00 for boat and trailer. It didn't have a TM , lights, etc...I added all those as I went along. Proud as punch!

NO song, NO sound ....... Feelings =YES

Mine replaced my motorcycle (May she RIP :/)
I wanted the wind in my hair and solitude while driving. Feeling the corners and the start and stop action.
The blast off, working the trim while leveling the throttle is like jumping off the clutch and changing gears while she sets the front back down.

Then the outdoors takes the place of the hunting/roaming the woods searching for that same solitude.

    I'm happiest when I'm out there !

    Re: (614-bass)

Drove all the way to Arkansas to pick up my BeeLine. Surprised I made it home. Was looking at the boat in the rear veiw mirror more than I was watching the road. Stopped in Mountain Home Arkansas and spent the night with Backlash which was really cool. One of the guys I always wanted to meet! Had a great time with him there!!! Drove the remaining 10 hours or so home the next morning. Swapped motor the motor off my old boat onto the BeeLine that week got her all loaded up ready to fish. Then she sat for another week and a half as I worked and marshalled for the Elite series. And then.... we hit the water and I never felt so sick in my life . The chine walk was so intense I didn't think I'd ever be able to drive it. Bought it new and here I was thinking I just blew $xx,xxx on something I'd never be able to use . Well, a lot of seat time and some prop height adjustments and I LOVE IT!!!
