was wondering the difficulty in putting in a 5th wheel hitch for a camper if needed or if it even recommended. I have a 1/2 ton silverado. not very educated about the gooseneck. just know it is inside the bed.

Helped a guy do it one time. Pay someone! We had to take the bed loose from the frame to get stuff to line up.

A gooseneck and a 5th wheel are not the same. Most campers are 5th wheels.
IMO a half ton is undersized for almost all 5th wheel campers. Even a 3/4 ton single wheel is undersized for a lot of them. The numbers you get from the dealer are dry weight, and by the time you add gear, clothes and propane and water, you are over the limit on all but the very lightest rigs.
I've been sort of shopping for a camper, and am coming to the conclusion that a 1-ton dually is the ideal vehicle for towing one. Check out rv.net for good info.
They make em' for 1/2 ton trucks and if its a short bed there are tons ofoptions for sliders to help the turning radius. I thik now if you want to spend a little extra you can get a set of rails with mount kit taht mostly bolt on which to me is much better than the weld on type. There are even adapter plates that let you run a 5th wheel plate and a gooseneck ball on the same rails. Check this site out, lots of good info on hitchs truck towing etc....

One thing to think about with a 1/2ton truck is the weight of the trailer and making sure it within your truck capicity. Catfan is right, you can quickly overload your truck with a 5th wheels, bumper pull or tag along trailer with a weight distribution system might be the better bet
