Just got the new LU but...

Ok, as you said the LU is the same from the 2000 225 Ficht for my 1998 175 ficht.

Everything looks exactly the same except for the rod that goes up the mid-section(not the drive shaft). The one I had was straight and the rod on the new one is off centered about an inch or less. Like I said the new one is straight all the way up and then abou 3 inches fron the top it jaunts over an inch and then goes the rest of the way up.

I'm sorry i don't know the tchnical terms.

Will this still work on my engine? a

Put the shift rod from the old gearcase into the new one. The only problem is that the shift rod needs to be adjusted. You can count how many turns it comes out of the old case/ reinstall that many into the new one. You still will not know if it's right, techs use a guage with the heights marked on it. I do not know right now what it calls for. Hopefully someone is close to a manual and will shout it out.

ok, switched the shift rods. Now I have realized the actual shaft is a .5 inch longer.

The shaft on the old LU is serial # 338573
The shaft on the new LU is serial # 345870
    Can these be switched also?

You need to set it to a specified distance from a plane surface on the LU. Did you by chance measure that distance before you removed it from the old one?

It is a pain to do but you can do it without dropping the foot give it 2 turns down and re install the foot and try it should be close may have to give it one more turn down. Like Rudetech says we use a gauge.
