I will never ship a rod USPS again. Sent it to Hardcore and he IMed me that the tube was broken and the rod was too. After he opened the tube luckily the rod was NOT broken. But this just goes to show that no one care about your stuff except you.

I just shipped one USPS and the tube came in broken too. I was also lucky in that the rod was not broken.
UPS may be a little more expensive but I have never had them break one.
multiple rods shipped in cardboard tubes. Only one I ever had damaged was from USPS. Guy wanted me to sign for it I laughed told him to return it as I wasn't filing claim on it. He told me to sign and I could file claim I laughed again and closed door. I could hear rod tip bouncing in bottom of tube.
My current USPS lady I had to go to postmaster over as she wouldn't bring rods to my house. She would leave them at office saying they were to long to go in her jeep. She wasn't happy after I complained. Now she brings them to my house hanging out the back of her jeep. Still I didn't pay for delivery to their office I paid to my house.
The rod may not be broke now but give it a few hooksets and it will be.

If you have never met Hardcore and he sent that picture to you that picture on the wall is his work photo and those are his dolls that he loves to play with. I hope it was a snoopy pole, that is what he is used to using.![]()

Yeah I know Hardcore, I fished the ABA out there in Charelston before I got of the Marine Corps. I think I saw him use that Snoopy pole once or twice. LOL
Not being a smart ass, but I've never, ever had a PVC tube break. Shipping in cardboard is asking for trouble, period.

That is how I sent my last rods out but this time I didn't have any PVC around the house, next time I will buy some and send it that way.
It happens. I had one sitting on my door step last year from USPS when I got home. I was lucky enough that the rod somehow survived without a scratch. I ordered a fly rod years ago but UPS delivered a rod tube without the rod in it.![]()
+1
After I saw the postal lady try to get my 7' rod I shipped into her little suv I vowed to never ship in anything but PVC again. She had it sticking out the front window facing forward. I'm wondering if that's how these carboard tubes get broke, they catch a tree limb or something and it bends it around the window post.![]()

I have received 2 different rods, in cardboard and both looked like that.
They were not damaged, but when i came home they were laying on my door step.
I always ship in PVC its worth, it no one wants to receive a damaged rod.
I always use UPS, on rod shipping.

LOL, yeah but its the Principle!! Well like I said from now on I will be using PVC!!!
St. Croix ships their blanks & rods in those cardboard tubes. I've never received a broken one from them. however, I re-used said St. Croix cardboard tubes to ship rods twice, and both times the tube was broke, but not the rod. I'm guessing that cardboard is a single use tube. I use PVC for all rods I ship now.

UPS broke three Dobyns rods and they were in heavy PVC.

It's obvious that any carrier can break anything. PVC helps minimize the risk, but lots of companies ship rods in heavy cardboard tubes and they make it just fine. USPS seems to have a much higher failure rate than Fed Ex or UPS in my experience...
