Black National Anthem

Okay, I'm not trying to stir to much of a shit storm here, but more have a few questions. I just found out there is a "black" or "negro" national anthem. I post this as an information source, so I have a few questions.

1. Why? We already have a "national" anthem that i thought was there for all men/women/colors/and creed.
2. If there is such a cry on segregation on racism, how does this not segregate the black community as a hole?
3. Where and when did this originate, first I've ever heard of it was tonight, and figured I might be able to learn something new today.

Like I said above not trying to start a bunch of shit, just trying to learn about something I never knew about and some reasoning behind it. I love the Marvin Gaye version of the National Anthem. The Ray Charles version of "Lift Every Voice And Sing" is ok with me. Better than Snoop Dog's.

thanks, yeah i got that, trying to get some personal opinion from the black community I guess. I just don't get why it's called the "black national anthem". why not the original title and stating it was about lincoln's birthday, and speaking out against racism. I get that, I really do, I just don't get why the black community feels they need their own national anthem when the true US national anthem was intended for every american, all races.

Its not that hard to understand really is it ? There are all kinds of "groups" out there that have their own national anthem. gay,black,Confederate etc etc

I didn't know of any of those either, nothing bad against gays, but i just googled the gay national anthem, and the first thing that popped up, other than marvin gaye, was the YMCA song, thought that was pretty funny So still learning more tonight I guess.

Frankly I am getting real tired of all the racist bulshit in this country, we are Americans if you want to be anything else leave. Tired of all the crap that every group has to rewrite everything so they are not discriminated against. While I as a white male am the only race and gender that has no rights to any beliefs, because someone may be offended. It is bullshit, the only people suffering discrimination in the last 40 years have been white people, try to get a scholarship, or food stamps or government housing, oh, you're white, sorry. You can't have anything in this country now for white people only including a TV show, but when was the last time you saw a white guy on BET. It should be equal across the board, Dixie should get to be the first white soul train dancer. Everybody needs to grow up or grow a set, this country has a constitution, a flag, an anthem, and laws written for everyone black, white, and even Hunt. live by the founding fathers and our veterans blood stained legacy and be happy.

Given that it stands for Black Entertainment Television, I wouldn't think you would see all that many white guys on it.

I heard that black homosexuals have their own national anthem too.
