    blown head gasket

Yesterday, I noticed a small puddle under my truck. Felt of it, and it was antifreeze. Popped the hood and started looking around thinking it may be a hose or the water pump... nope, it's coming from between the head and block... yep, like I really need this expense right now

I guess I'll be calling some mechanics for an estimate... I'm not gonna try this one.. a water pump, yeah, pulling the head, etc., not so much....

That sucks. Some cars are easy for head gasket repairs but others are a bear. Hopefully yours is one of the cheaper repairs.

That bites, if it's a GM check the intake gasket.

On the bright side it dumped the anti freeze out instead of in.

    No Kidding!

This may buy me a little time.... I'll just have to keep a good eye on the coolant

Be careful doing that!! I did that once on our 97 Blazer, one day the coolant went in instead of out and I got to replace the motor because I didnt have time to change a gasket Well I had to find the time to change the motor

What engine? I think some ford v6's have a water tube under the intake that busts and looks like a head gasket leak.

it's coming from between the head and block and I can see where it's running down the block (stains) right around the first cylinder on the left from front (same side as the alternator and oil filter) I first thought it was blowing back from the water pump... no such luck..

Hope there's one you can't see. Got to be easier than a head gasket.

    Re: blown head gasket (dirtmonkey)

If its a 4.0 V6, its probably the heads. They are notorious for this as they are thin aluminum. If you so much as get it hot at all they will usually split. My Ranger has that motor and cracked them twice. It was cheaper to buy a salvage motor and swap the whole thing than replace the heads. Hopefully its just the gaskets for you though.

The 4.0's are notorious for this and the heads are its greatest weakness. Lots of info on the web about it.

Uuhhh.....1994-95 V6 Mustangs?!?! I had one, it was on the road for 6 months. Bought it for $150 with blown head gaskets when I was 17, my buddy and I rebuilt it.

That does suck about the motor, but like others said, it may be something you and a buddy can hammer out in a week. You'll probably want to send the heads out and have them resurfaced, for lack of a better term at the moment.

I hate to hear the bad news Dirt.

If comes down to a complete rebuild and you have nothing else to lose put a can of head gasket repair in her and ride out.
