I am heading to Dale Hollow and going to do some live bait fishing. First time I have ever used shiners other than fishing for stripers with a guide. Will be fishing 25-30ft. Mostly straight down from the boat. Looking for best recomendations on hooks to use and general set up.

fishing for bass? mixed bag? I'd opt w/a light wire octopus circle like a no. 1 or 1/0 max. Gammies is what i would recommend, Just start reeling. that simple.
I'd use the same hook as I use in saltwater with greenbacks or live shrimp, circle hook

Well I picked me up some 3/0 Gammy Circles tonight at Gander. Gonna give them a shot.
3/0 is plenty large, the reason for using a smaller hook is less chance on gut hooking em'. I'd be cautious w/the 3/0 for bass. Unless you plan on eating them. You have to think that you're fishing a "nose hooked plastic" on a drop shot more or less. Rarely do we use such a large hook doing this. Good luck good fishing, and don't forget just reel.

Absolutely agree. This is what we use but usually in a #4 size. Very small hook and the circles dont' let the fish get gut hooked. I would also add that you shouldn't limit yourself to just dropping the line below the boat. Pitch the points and bluffs.
