prop change,,,,where would you start ?

I'm pulling the sled to work tomorrow to check out this prop when I get off and get it setup if I can. Anyway, I'm running a 23 Tempest with 3 large plugs and I'm gonna try a 23 Trophy. Question, cavitation ring off and plug the holes to start or leave the seal ring on with large plugs in? I'm at 3-1/2 under pad now with room to move up so I probably should just start there with the Trophy because I've heard they need to run lower, true? I'm just fishin in case somebodies been this route and maybe can save me a step or two.

HOW MANY RPMS AND WHAT SPEED ON TEMPEST? what are you trying to accomplish? I have seen a few 150 toons sporting 24 furys and doing pretty well

In the heat 5400ish and 58-59 full heavy , when I first put the prop on it was still cool 5700ish and 61 heavy. A couple MPH better solo light, the numbers say this Tempest is closer to a 24 running..... I'm looking for a prop a little easier to drive as far as being trim sensitive to speed changes, the Tempest runs good but you gotta be paying to much attention in some places (like areas of the spillway) it's kind of a PITA. Maybe I'm barking in the wrong tree

You would want to go down a pitch from the Temp to the Trophy. The Trophy will deff handle better and give you more lift, if you where at 5700 when it was cool, you could stand to gain some more rpms, typically you gain 200 rpm for every pitch down and loose 200 for every pitch up

Let me ask my question a little better. Is there any top end performance difference between having a cavitation ring on or off a Trophy being its a smaller barrel prop? ,,,,,,,,,,,,,I'll gladly give up a couple MPH to get an easier driving boat, when I want one. Like when the wifes in the boat cuts down on the stinkeye I get. I'll work on seeing what I can get topside with the Trophy and decide then if its worth tuning a holeshot. The boat picked up 100 rpms with the engine 1/2" move up with the Tempest and I think I've got room for another half so I'm not done with that either

To give the prop a fair shot at running....Mark the jackplate and raise the motor some as the 4 blades like a little higher setting

set the motor at 3.25 under install cav ring and all large pvs plugs and go from there , you might even have to remove a plug or 2 for good holeshot you want it to be spinning up around 4000 on holeshot for a good takeoff

I ended up with 2 large and 2 solids to get about 4Gs on the holeshot with only minor blowout right at breakover, gets up on par with the Tempest feels like. The topend I can't say because I left my unit at the house and had a dead battery on the phone 15 minutes after getting to the launch, feel just as fast and the RPMs are about even with the Tempest. Overall the prop is doable I think but once I knew that I spent most of my time fishing, caught quite a few Bonnet Carre bass with 2 pretty good ones. No pics so maybe I dreamed that part
