    Anyone been to Breckenridge, CO?

My girlfriend and I plus another couple are wanting to plan a trip to Breckenridge to go skiing. I have never been there and was wanting to know if any of you guys have been. If you have where did you stay? How did you like it? Any other help would be great. Thanks guys...

I went there 5-6 years ago and had a pretty good time skiing. I stayed at a Holiday Inn (free) so I can't really say much about the rest of the hotels/motels in the area. When I do plan a trip to CO typically I like to stay in Vail. It has a great nightlife with free public transportation. Also, if you want to ski other resorts (Beaver Creek or Breck, A-Basin) you're not far from either one.

I have heard great things about Breck/Frisco nightlife but didn't experience much of it.

Yes we loved it. we rented a house right off the slopes. There were so many slopes that I didn't get to try all the ones I wanted to.

We went to Breck this summer and stayed at the Marriott. It was reasonably priced and nice. I think it was around $110 a night, but I'm sure that changes for ski season. I'm sure this all changes during ski season, but we weren't huge fans of Breckenridge. It was too crowded for us and crazy. We had just come from Crested Butte which is very laid back comparatively so that may have been why it felt like that. The town is very nice and pretty area, we just didn't like the atmosphere as much as Crested Butte. Like I said, take all of this with a grain of salt because it was during the summer and it was a very nice town, just not our taste, we prefer the laid back atmosphere and didn't participate in the night life at all.

All of the areas in Summit County are great. I love the town of Breckenridge...it's sort of a poor man's Aspen. If you have a car or don't mind schlepping your skis on public transportation, you can hit the slopes on Copper Mountain and Keystone too...both great ski areas (Copper Mt. is my favorite). When I drive up to go skiing, that's where I usually head. I always find a place to stay in Dillion or Frisco and then drive to wherever we want to ski that day. Everything is within a 20 or 30 minute drive from Dillon or Frisco and it's much cheaper than staying right on the slopes or in Breckenridge.
    Don't worry Ma'am....

Used to go to training out in Boulder for my company and would stay over the weekend. Drive out to Breck and ski all day never stayed over night there. The run 4 o'clock goes all the way into town. Great skiing, Keystone offers night skiing and is colder than a well diggers butt at night. For something a little different try A-basin and Winter Park.

Great ski area, with plenty of other good ones around. If you want to ski in/ski out stay at Breck. If you want to hit some of the other hills, stay in an area that is convenient. Frisco is nice.

You probably want to give yourself some time to adjust to the elevation, take it easy the first day. I have a relative with a house there and they try to keep guest from drinking on the first day or two until the are acclimated.

I have been going to Breckenridge almost every year for probably 15 years. Saying that the snow is horrible this year, you might want to look elsewhere. For lodging I would look at vrbo.com, they have a ton of great possibilities. The new gondola takes you up to peak 7 or peak 8 and leaves right from the town. If you go have fun, the downtown area is great with plentiful options for great dining.

I really appreciate all the info guys. For me half of the fun of a trip is the planning and research time.

Went for a week a few years back. Stayed in a friends condo.
Sprained my ankle on the first day and spent the rest of the time either in the hot tub or at the bar.
Had some good food and drink here...

    So true.

As a mainly East Coast skier all I can be is jealous of anything out west. I have been to Colo and Utah several times both and the diff is night and day compared to here.

If you look for a good deal and see one in Dillon there are shuttles that run to all the resorts for skiing for sure and evenings out I believe. It is a great way to go!!!

Re: Anyone been to Breckenridge, CO? (packfan)

All that said, and as much as I love the Summit County areas, I have to say the absolute best skiing in the world is Snowmass over by Aspen. Snowmass has three separate mountains with every type of terrain from easy greens to death defying double black diamonds. If it's crowded in one area you can just jump on a lift or two and find an area that is completely (or almost) empty. The blue runs are the absolute best I have ever experienced. If you get bored with Snowmass then shuttle over to Buttermilk, Aspen Highland, or Aspen Mountain which looks right down on the town of Aspen. And then when skiing is finished you can hop on a shuttle and go shopping and star spotting over in Aspen and enjoy the finest restaurants in the country.

Only problem with Snowmass is that it's way over on the other side of the front range about 50 miles south of Glenwood Springs, so it adds two or three hours to a car trip. But if somebody is looking for the ultimate ski vacation it would be the top of the list...for me anyway.

Breck doesn't have hardly any snow right now, and the same goes for all of summit county. I'm not sure what your skill level is, but wolf creek has a ton of snow right now.
