    115 Intruder "Weird"

A friend of mine has a 1997 115hp Intruder that is acting just plain out "Weird". Here goes; motor runs fine first thing in the morning - 5600 - 5800 rpms, 22 pitch Raker prop. no misses or anything. Then after it gets hot (10 minutes or so) it begins to sputter, cut out just plain out runs bad. He can back it down sometimes to around 4000 rpms or so and it will run ok at those rpms for a while and then it usually starts the same mess at the lower range as well. Usually gets worse the higher you trim it. He has put a power pack on, had the carbs. cleaned and sealed (supposedly), the mechanic is baffled - need help. Thanks!

This sounds like a stator issue. As the stator warms up, it builds resistance and loses voltage. The voltage can be monitored when it happens. Either the power coil or charge coil can be at fault. both are in the stator.
