    Greatings from Sweden (+video)

    Hi everybody!

Still lot's of ice here in Sweden but in a few weeks we'll be in the water again! Until then I'd like to share some fun moments on the water from last summer:
    http://members.chello.se/fjord...2.mpg

Luckily my Rude was the fastest, but the OptiMax-guy has spent a lot of time working on his hull finish this winter, and he also bought a new lift so there's a risk that he'll beat me once we're out on the water again.

    Enjoy!

Thanks for the link to that movie. The quality was excellent. The boat design is quite interesting, too.

Thanks everybody for the nice comments!

Fjordling 17 HT (hard-top) is a Norweigian boat built in the 60's and still very popular in Sweden. Replicas are being built today. It work's well as a family daycruiser in our climate that is a bit on the cold side. It's perfect to keep the kids under the roof and also two persons can sleep overnight under the hard-top.

The best thing though is a light and well designed hull with a 24 degree V-bottom and lifting strakes - which was quite innovative in the early 1960's! Design made by Jan Hermann Linge who has designed numerous motor and sail boats and also designed a famous motor-torpedo-boat, named NASTY, a fast patrol boat used by several NATO-navies.

The Fjordling 17 HT won many long distance races in Sweden in the 60's, often equipped with twin merc ( ) high-towers.

A few years ago a crazy guy modified the hull to 28 or 30 degrees and mounted a compressor V8 i/o. After taking the engine from Sweden to Florida and back for trimming and blueprinting he managed to reach about 82 knots!!! (thats about 94 mph! In a 17 ft family pleasure boat! )

Typical speed with a V6 smallblock outboard is around 50 knots. With the right setup you get close to 60 knots. A few guys uses bigblock V6 and can reach above 60 knots but the boat gets too stern heavy and driving performance suffers.

I'm running a 175 Ficht from 2000. Would love to switch to an E-tec 150 H.O. soon, but will have to wait before my wallet allows it.

    Re: Greatings from Sweden (MagnusL)

Here's a nice view of the hull of my friends boat. Photo taken at the same occasion as the movie shooting.

And here's a pic from 1966 with a twin-engine setup on a promotion tour by the swedish Fjordling agent (same agent as for the black things).

My boat, below, is from 1969. By then there was a new agent that was not on the dark side, so mine has been powered by Evinrude all the way, except a few years with a Johnson.

    Ride on!

Put the boat in the water sunday, first time this year. After five minutes, struck something (on deep water though!) that damaged prop and anti-ventilation plate. Gear oil coming out too...

Gear-case is now in the shop for repair, but it's the busy time of the year...

That's a great video and a nice looking boat. Would make a nice "sleeper" ride over here, no one would expect a boat that looks like that to run that fast. Keep the vids coming.

    Re: Greatings from Sweden (Eagle670)

    Hi Peter

No hasn’t talk to the dealer yet, I will call them on Tuesday since it closed on Monday.

Looks like the engine will arrive in late June, so I thinking of putting back my old engine.

So I can use the boat.

I just watched the video--for about the fifth time. It is great. Thanks for the information on the classic old boat. It sounds like the "Boston Whaler MONTAUK" of Sweden.
