Bent prop shaft, whats it going to cost me?

Yep I boogered my beautiful Bravo 1 XS today at the ramp, and I can see prop shaft wobble with the naked eye. For those who have done the same, what did it run to fix the shaft?

Pull it and send it to Eddie Pope (gearcaseman on the Johnson/Evinrude forum) he straightened mine to .002 variance for 29 bucks. He's a wizard at it.

Some dealers can sell you a reconditioned prop shaft. Mine was less than $100 on my last Skeeter ZX225. Ran the boat 2 years with it and ran hard without an issue. I think total install was in $250 range. Our Skeeter dealer has a place that they use.

There's a lot of local machine shops out there that do this for the various dealers, cost is around $100 or so. You're other option is SEI, Stern Drive Engineering, they'll sell you a whole lower unit for under $1K (my last one, and I've been thru 3, was around $795 for a 2002 Opti) go to www.sterndrive.com

Get it fixed cheap enough to save from making the claim... Save claims for the big ones. I know you better than the rest of these guys.

I don't believe I have the tools to pull it myself and I have sent Eddie a PM. Got bunches of marinas close by that may be able to pull/reinstall for me. I'll have estimates Monday.

I pulled my whole lower unit and sent to Eddie. He checked all gears and straightened prop shaft, vacuum and pressure checked after re assembly. Cant remember price but know that it was real reasonable. Does great work.
