    xs250 2012 or 2013 ?

    Pro SX 250hp... what year...
I have the option of either one right now and wanted to see what the opinions on the two years are? I was thinking of just going with the 2013 but heard the lower unit has changed and the engine may be a little slower? Not much info on these yet up here in Canada. It's for a 2005 Basscat Cougar on a manual jackplate if it matters.
I also heard the power head is identical ?

Don if you had a choice what would it be ? (sorry to put you on the spot buddy)

they dont hardly use Years any more, but the decals are different and LU is optionaly different...you shouldn't notice any speed difference on your rig...i guess its which design you like on the decals...????

Identical powerhead, but there is a difference in the throttle cam/linkage, and the PCM calibration.

I'd gladly bolt EITHER to my boat if one showed up.... and smile all the way down the river.

There was a VERY slight decrease in propshaft output on the 2013 Production models (specifically due to the new "NTE", or not-to-exceed EPA emissions standards).

Very minimal... and those utilizing the Gen-2 Torquemaster Gearcase will likely (if set up CORRECTLY) see BETTER performance/speed than previous models.

Haven't had a chance to run a dyno comparison.... but for most bass rigs, there should be no more than perhaps 0.5-1 MPH difference on "Servicemaster" (aka: Verado-style) gearcase models, between the two production years.

These changes occurred MID production year (December 2012 for 225/250 ProXS models), so not all 2013 production engines fell into this category.

    Eli:

Again... as you know, Mercury doesn't use "Years" (and hasn't for nearly a decade). Therefore, it's not accurate or appropriate to refer to these engines by anything other than the serial number(s).

If we're going to GENERALIZE by referring to engines produced during a "production year" (which also is not accurate, as changes CAN and DO occur during a production year):

    2005: Average 274 Propshaft HP
    2008: Average 268 Propshaft HP
    2012: Average 268 Propshaft HP
2013: Undetermined (not yet seen results).

Same powerhead and calibrations used in the Sport 250XS versions (20" shaft models)... results would be virtually identical.
