I have a 1992 Evinrude Intruder 150 HP Model # VE150GLENC.
I bought this boat a few weeks ago and tried it out. It had a bad miss when it reached around 4600 to 5100. When it gets up to around these RPM's it starts missing and falls back to about 4000 RPM's maybe even lower sometimes.
Since then I have put new spark plugs (QL 78YC), checked compression (90-92 all cylinders), added fuel additives, sprayed about a half of can of Mercury Power Tune Engine Cleaner in the carburetors while it was running, changed to a lower pitch prop (23" 4-blade) & took off automatic oiler and mixed the oil manually.
It is not getting hot and has good water presure, but I still have the same high RPM miss?
I guess the power pack is next, but that is where it gets a little confusing for me. From what I have read on here and other forums, it seems as though there are several different do's and don'ts about replacing them.
For instance...OUTBOARDPARTS.COM talks about certain power packs will not work unless they have a certain colored sleeve on the stator or sensor. Other forums have suggested there are several power packs available but many are junk and are bad investments.
My question is...am I on the right track with the power pack and what else do I need to replace to try and solve my problem.
Thanks, Mark R
