    Thrust Washer?

Seems like here lately, Thrust washers are like oil. I'm buying one every tankfull.
    (seems like anyway...)
05 250hpdi. I ran a prop for about a year and all was fine until it threw a blade.
Bought another prop (used) and a new thrust washer. Then every time I'd get off the water, prop would be loose. I'd tighten it up, and a day later, it'd be loose.
About a month of that and it threw a blade.
Put another T-1 on it, and another new thrust washer. Same problem, loose after use.
Swapped lower units, and still....loose after every trip.
Bought another new thrust washer and this time the part number shown to be correct was different than the previous three thrust washers.
Threw another blade shortly there after.

Been running a merc prop for the last couple of months, no problems other than it's slower.

So, I buy a new T-1 and go to order a new thrust washer, and...now it's not only a different part number, BUT, it's now a "two piece" washer?

Is this new two piece thrust washer deal the answer to keep my T-1 from coming loose every trip to the lake?
Props and thrust washers are getting to be quite expensive.
I think the new secret color is "A-Rig"..........

    Re: Thrust Washer? (SkeeterDD22)

Well, Yamaha came out with that a few years back. It was designed to fix the problem of the old washers wearing and allowing the prop to rub on the gearcase.
Have you noticed any excessive wear on your old thrust washers? If so, that is what has been happening. You canalso look at the bearing carrier on the gearcase to see if the props have been rubbing on it.
You'll be good with the 2 piece washer. Just make sure the prop-side of the thrust washer is butted all the way against the hub of the prop. And tighten the P$%# out of it!

Yeah, I now see where this two piece washer isn't anything "new". I guess my supplier had excess amounts of the old style and just kept them listed until all were gone.
My old ones were beyond worn. They were JUNK. And, they did eat into the bearing carrier. (luckily, not into the seal though...still useable).
