    2005 300hpdi

Looking at buying a stratos 201 with a 2005 300 hpdi, Some are saying to stay away from the 05's and others say stay away from the 300s all together. What should i be looking for? Will getting the serial number give me access to all the updates and warranty work that may have been done. The boat is from quite far away and trying to cover all my bases before I make the haul to pick her up. Any and all help would really be appreciated.

I've got one on a 21 ft. Bullet. Great engine, has 340 hours and never turned a bolt other than routine filters and maintenance. They make the HP that is equal to a 250 opti. This one dynos at 293 on the limiter. Take care of your high pressure filters and injectors, use ring free, run real gas, change your filters and clean your injectors every 100 hours and they will run forever. Most folks that have had problems haven't done all to keep them right.

....trying to clearify your statement. A 250xs won't dyno at 293 in stock form. 293 is only 12 less hp than a 300xs so it sounds like a tweener to me

As for buying a 201 with one? HECK YES!!!!! Go for it!

My engine on the dyno was 293 on the limiter. Every 250xs I've ever seen on the dyno was way over 250, in the 285-290 range. Don't know what you mean by tweener, but the 300xs beats 305 by 15-25.

Kevin when you say dyno horsepower that is at the crank shaft or prop shaft for your motor?

Yep, that was on the crank at HT a couple years ago. Not much difference in ponies between my series 1 and the 250xs.

    Re: (55excl)

All I know is there are MANY very documented reports and posted dyno-sheets over on Scream & Fly of the 300xs. In bare stock form its peak hp is about 305 ish. Not to sound like a dick...but there are 5 times as many guys running 300xs motors over there than on any bass sight.

Now the 300x is 315-330 but the OPTI 300xs that I have seen are 305. After mods, its a different story (335ish).

There is an EXCELLENT thread RIGHT now called "The last great Outboard" and its all about the 300xs. THE most well written and documented report of the 300xs I have ever seen. Go check it out for yourself. The Hydro-tec dyno's are all POWERHEAD rated pulls (I got my motor from there as well). Powerhead numbers are ALWAYS going to be higher than prop-shaft ratings...

As far as a 250xs vs 300xs....seems to me your looking at 3-4 mph on the HP hulls
