Question is what would need to be done to "change" a 04 250 HPDI into a 04 300 HPDI?

A lot, porting is diff, 300 has water cooled intake for starters. Good news is you can get 340-370hp out of the 250 with Phase 3

Hmmm...Sounds like a lotta work and/or money. The 250 in question is on a 23' bayboat that I share w/ my dad. We're only getting 46mph at wot and I was hoping a simple flash and/or some bolt ons would help us out. Not looking for a drastic improvement, just hoping for a lil more. As usual.
The biggest gain us heads and it's pretty simple to do
By heads do you mean changing the heads? Please enlighten. I'm a DIY'er and am somewhat mechanically inclined. My dad was an auto mechanic for 22 yrs also, so he oughta be some help too.![]()
Your not going to get a lot on that bayboat. The higher compression heads will certainly help and can be changed in less than an hour. I doubt just the heads will give you over 2 or 3 mph, if that. The full phase 3 kit might be good for 6 or 7 mph. Check the H-T website for cost and parts on the ph 3.![]()

So if you can get up to 370 with phase 3 on a 250,what can you get out of a phase 3 300.![]()
I was under the impression that ALL 3.3L HPDI's get 370ish hp with all the HT work done to them???
Bout 370 either way. I think the difference between the 250 and 300 is port timing and the water-cooled reed housing. I'd bet money the water-cooled reed housing is worth squat for hp. That leaves the porting, which HT can do on either one to the same specs.
Port work is not a bolt on, obviously. But I think the 3.3 is good for 370ish and the 3.1 will do about 340ish. On a 300, or a 250 with port work, add the recurved ECU and flow matched injectors for a winter time 390ish. But, the amazing part is how behaved the mota is. Idles like a stock mota, no bad habits at all.
