Last piece of PH II installed

Just installed my Rec heads. Exhaust tuner, fiber reeds and solid motor mounts allready installed. What is the best range of plugs to run for this set up? Currently have BR8HS10.

    2000 203 Champ/2000 225 Yamaha V-max
72.6 GPS at Sam Rayburn during Bass Champs T's (02/27/2010)
    Live wells full, one fish
    1/2 tank of fuel
    all tournament equipment
    10" jack plate
    3 1/4" below pad
25 -30 psi water (have newer HPDI lower unit, 1.75/1)
5900 - 6100 rpms (not sure if tach is right on)
    27" tempest + worked by Mark's Prop
BTD with live wells empty, 1/2 tank of fuel and by myself 74.6

will post new results after this weekend at Rayburn

Those plugs will work just fine. No need to change to a dfferent heat range - just run the higher octane fuel (91 or 93).
Let us know how it runs.

Re: Last piece of PH II installed (DChamp)

Well, was not a banner day at the lake. Had a 27 Fury I put on with the large hole plugs in it. No hole shot to speak of. Will do better with the plugs removed. Had a 1/4 tank of regular gas and filled it with prem. gas. Mid range felt better, but the prop had no lift to it at all. Could only muster 72 GPS mph at 5800 rpm. Should have left my 27 tempest + on it. It only got worse after that. Heading back to ramp after fishing the motor seems to stumble, I let off the throttle and it did it again and then it stopped. Motor was locked up! Got towed in by pontoon boat (he was the only one who asked if I needed help - all the other bass boats never slowed down or came near enough to ask) Pulled the plugs and the #4 had small bits of molten aluminum on it All the other plugs were bone dry (no oil residue) and had a redish tint on the insulator. Now I'm looking at replacing the powerhead.

Sorry to hear that. Was that the original powerhead. After 10 years things will go wrong. Still a bad deal. We want them to last forever. Build it to scream. I know many guys have the worked v-max hydrotec motors for a long time.

It was the original power head. Just to be on the safe side I'm going to send all the injectors to have them checked out to make sure #4 didn't lean out. The #4 piston broke a piece off of the top right side by the upper intake port. All the other pistons and head chambers look fine.

With higher compression heads BR9 are the correct plugs.

    Interesting....I wonder how that correlates to the 150's? The 200's are 8's stock....the 150's are 7's stock....

Re: Last piece of PH II installed (DChamp)

Got my power head from HT, put it all togehter and bolted on the rec heads. Ran a compression check; 130 - 135 psi. Will get my injectors back from HT this week. Emptied my gas tank and put fresh premium in it with added oil for breakin. Will make a run up to Conroe this week to break it in. Will post performance results after breakin period. Have to get it ready for Falcon Lake last week of April.

Re: Last piece of PH II installed (87gtNOS)

With compression over 135 which creates a lot more heat, 91-93 octane fuel is needed which burns slower then 87 octane. No matter if its a 150 or a 300+hp, BR9 is a cooler plug and for this application a correct plug to control and stabilize the burn. Hotter plug in most cases will cause pre-ignition.

Re: Last piece of PH II installed (DChamp)

Went to Conroe, put my 27 Temp+ on 3.5" blp. Was just a wee bit windy (15 -25)to make an all out run.Was able to hit 72 gps at 5800 and was still pulling strong before it got to rough. Water psi was about 25. Believe it will go 76 like it is setup before it hits the rev limiter. Maybe Sat I will try it again before I'm off to Falcon lake for 4 days of fishing

Re: Last piece of PH II installed (DChamp)

Went to Conroe again, very little wind:
25 Fury out of box, 3 3/4" BLP ( tried at 3.5 BLP, not much lift)
    10" set back
    74 gps @ 5950 rpms
    water press - 22 psi

had to let off at 74, got really lose - with WOT I start to trim up watching my tach and gps speed, when the boat starts to come up on pad it will jump from 68 -74 in a heart beat. motor is very strong throught the rpm range. just need to cure the chine walk.
