What I was told by my dealer was that all four stroke outboards do it during break in and that I should not worry about it. To a point I agree. All four stroke engines tend to do this when they are cold but as the engine warms to operating temp the fuel that washes down into the oil will evaporate out and you will never know it was there. The problem with the outboards that are doing this is their low operating temp. This has been hashed out to no end here. Do a search and you can read about it til your eyes bleed
Well since you have the same boat amd motor as me, mine made oil at first bad and gradually slowed down. And now I wait on my new powerhead because the rings were washed out. My motor started smoking like a 2 stroke but worse since I was now burning oil. You have to get the motor really really hot, trim down and run the mother out it now! I love my SHO and would not trade it, but the making oil issue is a problem, but you wont hear them say it. Its all in the break in really, get the motor hot hot hot after the first couple hours!

How did it work out for you? I hope well. I live across the river in sport. We should get together sometime and fish.
I have been told the following:
After intial break in per specs then run it like you stole it, hammer down
When idling, trim motor up, was told that this was the oil making issue here.
