    Fuel Water Separator

Ok as I am gathering my maintenance parts for the Spring, I was just wondering if installing a Water/ Fuel Separator is a good idea on my '01 200 HP ox66. I have heard mixed reviews in that they are absolutely necessary and that they can cause a fuel shortage so they are a No No. If you guys think I should install one, which brand is best? Thank you

They can cause a fuel shortage to the motor if the filter is not big enough or it is getting full. If it is getting full, that means it is doing its job. With the way fuels are these days, I would say yes you need one. I only change mine once a year. It is a 90 gph filter. The $18.oo I pay for a new filter is well worth it!!

I would think if they were a no no then they wouldn't come stock on most newer motors. Mine has it and I would put one on if it didn't.

Yeah that's what I was thinking too, but I read a few things that said never to run one in an Optimax, and though I do not have one, I figured it was better to ask.

That's exactly why I love BBC no matter what your question more than likely you aren't the first one to have it. Just a wealth of knowledge here. Saved me from some expensive rookie mistakes over the last couple of years

I would use the Yamaha brand and put it on there, it will save you a lot of headaches, I promise you.
When you are really very good at something you do, ever noticed how people seem to always find a way to come around to see how you do it?

With the fuel we have now ,i think you need one. Needs to be a 10 micron. I put a racor on my boat a couple years back. It has a visable drain bowl on the bottom so you can drain accumalated water, if you have any ,you can see it . I have never had any problem with a fuel shortage, and i run mine wide open real regular.
