HELP! 250 HPDI overheat sensor in grass

I run a 2006 Ranger 521 with a 06 HPDI and fish a lot of weedy rivers and lakes here in the North. My overheat sensor keeps going off when I run through the grass. Its not really thick stuff either... most of it is stringy grass. I keep a long brush on me and have to shut down all the time and brush grass out. Its a pain. Didnt have any problems with my Optimax although it suckes as a motor overall. Any suggestions???

Think you meant to post on the 3.0 Merc forum.

Why he has an 06 HPDI?

Anyway there isn't a lot that I know of you can do. I make it a habit when running thru grassy/weedy areas to throw it in reverse and "goose it" a bit when I stop at a spot that tends to blow the weeds off the prop and intake. but yeah it happens to me too.

Also make sure that you trim up pretty far as well.

It's the nature of the Beast, my 2009 250 HPDI "just smells Hydrilla" Buzzer goes
OFF, I learned to keep an eye on Water Pressure when running through grass, and
"shut down when I see ZERO Water Pressure, put it in Reverse to get grass off, then resume. Recken it has to do with Water Inlets being so low.
BTW having the Hydraulic J.P. up High when in grass seems to help.

Yep!! It's just the nature of the low water pickup. I really wish mine had a normal pickup. Its only reason for being is for high speeds and I rarely run that fast.
