Yamaha ox66 3.1 liter motors

I'm looking at several boats to purchase and a couple of them have this motor on them. The boats range in year from 01-04. Just wanted to ask the best their opinion on them. Thanks.

Yamaha Vmax 3.1 is the motor in question.

Mine is still screaming and the original owner (tournament fisherman) racked up a ton of hours in her first 4 years of life.

Only trouble with mine has been a dirty o2 sensor. My understanding of them though, is they are a WORKHORSE of a motor.

There's a little routine maintenance with the o2 sensor and low pressure fuel pumps, but there pretty much bulletproof.

Mine's 12 years old and has god knows how many hours and still cranks right up even in the freezing cold.

Not sure I would want anything else hanging off the back of my boat. With good maintenance they will give you 5000+ hours.

Had mine for four years.. Cleaned VST tank and replaced the 02 sensor and thats it. Smokes alittle more then some, but its a great motor. I would buy another one. They last, if you do the maintance...

Mine is 12 years new.Replaced the fuel pumps a few times,o2 sensor twice,other than spark plugs and lower unit oil thats it.Dont have any idea how many hours are on it.

I had a 04 for 6 yrs. estimate 300 + hrs that never missed a beat ran great . I changed filters and plugs every year and cleaned the o2 sensor 2 times in 6 years, just as maintenance , never a problem. They do eat gas but a strong running motor. KB
