Tach problems on 2001 225 ox66

I have a 2002 Blazer 202 with a 2001 225 ox66 and I noticed the other day that when my tach hits about 5600rpm it will drop down to 3000 rpm. There is no change in the sound of my motor or speed. I don't know much about this stuff so any help or suggestions would be great. The tach is a Faria that is original with the boat. I have owned the boat less than a year and it may have been doing this since I bought it, not really sure as I have been more focused on keeping it straight at wot.

I think Faria will replace/repair the gauge under warranty, or at a small charge. It could also be a bad connection on the back of the gauge or a rectifier/voltage regulator going bad.

The boat is nearly 10 years old and I am not the original owner. Would the tach still be under warranty? Would I need to take it to a shop to have the rectifier checked?

I'd call Faria and see what they say... Send it in.. I think the shop would have to test the rectifier, I dont know how.

Thanks for the reply. I'll check my wiring to be sure everything is good on that end and go from there. If it is the tach I am worried that I won't be able to find one to match, mine has a silver machined metal look on the face and I can't find one like it.

With it doing that try the dial on the back, look to see where it is set and then using a small flat head screwdriver, turn it both directions several times and then return it to the original position (mine is set to 5) and check again to see if it will work properly. I have been told they build up some corrosion on the contacts and that doing that will clear it. If not it can be sent back to Faria for repair or replacement, they gave me an estimate of $50 dollars to repair mine and it is the same model.
