How often do you guys run your motor WOT

I was in a tournament this last weekend and made a 9 mile run in the morning and ran pretty much WOT the whole way. I was just wondering how many other people give their Yammys a good flogging, and how often. She ran good btw, seemed to idle better after a few minutes of WOT time. Usually I put mine around at 3-4k rpm

i pretty much run mine wot at least once everytime i'm out.i have run mine wot for 25 minutes are a little longer on tournament runs more times than i can remember,in my opinion you need to put the hammer down on a regular basis to get the temp up and make the motor perform like it was meant to.

Re: How often do you guys run your motor WOT (bassfinder1)

I need to get more organized. I usually get out before dawn so I take it easy in the dark to my first spot and if the fishing is so/so and I use more than a couple techniques by the time I leave that spot my boat deck is full of rods, baits, bags of plastics and then it keeps accumulating throughout the day with snacks and drinks gotten out of the cooler, hats, jackets etc... I usually have too much stuff out and end up easing from spot to spot to avoid either having it all blow out on the ride or have to put it up and then take it right back out. If I am making a run of 7-8 miles or more I will take the time to put it all up but usually I don't I need to learn to be more organized though because I know its better on the motor to run the heck out of it.

When the day is over and my fishing buddy is headed to the parking lot for the truck I take the opportunity to "blow it out" >

Far more than I would like to. It's not how I prefer treat a boat motor but this one wants to be run hard during the early part of its life anyway so I run it hard to get it hot & seat these rings. So far it seems to be working.

Can't say I'm at all happy about having to do that as I've run over $500 in gas through it in the past 3 weeks but it is what it is.

I have been but am glad that I dont have to so much now. I'm looking forward to driving her normal now but I'll still keep the bow down to keep the load on. I feel like an idiot going WOT all over the place.

I don't fish tourny's, but do fish a lot. So top speed is not a requirement very often. I fish 3-5 days a week and maybe do a WOT run once every couple of weeks. I think it's good for them to do it every now and then. But mostly, like you, I run in the 3-4k range. I intend for this rig to last me a LOT of years, and running WOT a lot does not seem in step with that goal.

They need to breath a little every now and then on long runs but other than that-- peddle to the metal.

Re: How often do you guys run your motor WOT (phillic)

I usually try to run 2-3 miles at WOT every time out. In a tourny I will run WOT to my first spot and on longer runs during the day.

Re: How often do you guys run your motor WOT (HAWKHPDI)

Just fished our state tournament.Ran the whole pool lock to lock and then some about 40 miles one way. WOT both ways except a short distance in the fog at about 25 mph. Kinda the norm in a tournament to run 20 miles that way

Occasionally. Usually I run at about 4,000 rpms.

Mine only has two speeds. Idle or WAO.
