 Just had a new powerhead put on 2003 250 Yamaha hpdi - was getting 69- 71 at 5600 - 5700 rpms - now can't seem to get over 65 mph at 5500 - 5600 rpm.
Just out of break in period. Should these numbers improve with time? Is this characteristic of all new power heads?
Boat is 2004 Ranger 521vx.
What should these numbers be?

Check your thermostats for rubber and gasket materials that keep them from operating correctly Had to clean them twice after a Johnson rebuild
it should loosen up some but i dont know about 4mph. did they test and clean injectors? new fuel pumps, too?

Yes - injectors were cleaned. Not sure about fuel pump? It seems to have actually slowed down some during the break in period. After four hours I was told that I could run wot for a few minutes. Initially is could get about 68 mph or so. Cannot come close to that now.

Make sure the linkage is still set correct for full throttle. If it is way off, then I would get it back in the shop and have it checked out.
