    Trimming up noise

    Question: Triiming up

I ocassionally will have a noise when trimming up and it sounds terrible..cannot find out what the noise is..

Sounds like something breaking...motor is 2011 200 sho... on jackplate ..on 2011 200zx
    I had a 99 17ft 6in zx with a 2000 150 yamaha on a jackplate..did the very same thing...

Only time the sound is when the motor is trimmed all the way down and then trim up..always at the start of the trim up ??

    thanks

I use to have that noise didn't do anything and it mushroomed the trim rods out and had to have everything replaced.,put some grease on the end of the trim rods

I put grease on the trim tips today and it worked no more noise I used some wheel bearing grease it's thick and stays on just a dab on each one I will keep a eye on the pistons now on lol

I have a 2011 SHO 200 hp, and just noticed this noise last week. I am glad I found these posts because I figured it had to be something major. It almost sounds like my whole transom is cracking lol. I will try the grease technique. Why do Yamaha's do this? Motor is badass and couldnt be happier though

As to why yamahas do this I have no clue but the first time mine made the noise I was thinking the motor was going to fall in the water lol but the grease works well so keep an eye on it good luck with yours

I will put the grease on today..

Last week I was on the water with a buddy and it made the sound we are talking about... he nearly had to change his shorts it sounds that bad...

    Glad to hear everyones thoughts...

Put grease on mine today and it worked. You are all right about that sound. Crazy how you go from thinking your boat is f#cked to a simple fix.

They make the gawd awful noise because Yamaha doesn't use roller bearing on the ends of the trim pistons. If you ever take a look at a Merc, you'll see that they do My 2002 Vmax did it and I sure my 2011 SHO will do it. I actually use motorcycle chain wax. It seems to last longer.
