    250 yamaha hpdi series 2 questions ????

    motor has run flawless for 2 years now . all of a sudden on fri went to leave a spot and it wouldnt start ? almost sounded flooded.... after about 10 min of trying to start it finally started but ran like crap while idleing and in gear. I got it on plane and it ran great. But at next stop it would not start again. went through the same process of getting it started ... after 10 min she fired up again but was shakey and rough. slammed it in gear , got it on plane and runs great... anybody ever experience anything like this ?????? thanks for any help guys !!!!!!

    Have you changed out your filters? How many hours? If under 100 you should have changed out the 10 micron at least twice and the under cowl bowl filter twice as well. I would start there.

    Check lift pumps before changing any filters.

    Vapor lock??????My 225 HPDI had that problem when hot it would not start unless you got in the hot foot pretty good but the funny thing is you could back the motor in the shade and it would fire up with no problem at all.Dealer checked with Yamaha and they said tilt motor slightly and use NON ETHANOL FUEL.Trying to run the ethanol fuel out and use the non.Will let you know how it works.

    +1 on lift pumps. Take them apart and check the diaphrams for tears a 1 hour job.

    just heard from the mechanic who I took it too that my number 3 cylinder is blown up . I have blown a few motors up over 14 years and would not have guessed this motor was blown up . ran great when on plane . oh well warranty is a great thing . any guesses to why #3 blew up ????

    I have the same motor but mine isnt a series 2 with the same kinda symptoms....What are these lift pumps I keep hearing people talk about?? what do they control?? Would it be something under warranty I could have my marina check...?

    lift pumps are the low or medium pressure fuel pumps on the port side of the engine. They pump fuel into the VST tank where the high pressure fuel pump takes over and pumps the fuel/oil mixture to the fuel rails.

    The low or lift pumps are the two small pumps on the port side that pumps fuel from the gas tank to the VST where the medium pressure pump is located which supplies 50 psi of fuel pressure to the high pressure pump that supplies 1000+ psi to the injectors.

    report from yamaha stated the # 3 injector failed. #3 cylinder only had 60 pounds. they sent out a new powerhead last week. just an update. thanks for all your help guys !!
