hi i just bought a 91 492 v ranger with a 225 yamaha. it will start but when i put it in gear it will shut off. cant figure this out. any ideas

any ideas of what the problem could be, its starts but when goes in gear it shuts off.
make sure your idle isnt too low. also check for binding in the lower unit. if thats locked up it will die. i think there is a switch (engine cutoff switch??) that can go bad and tell the powerhead to cut off when put in gear. dont quote me on that though. good luck. what is the model number on your engine?

my model number is 225TLRP. still figuring it out its going back to the dealer this week.
