    M-Y Wedge or Pro Rule

I am about to purchase a new transom saver and this seem to be the ones that are most used. I would like to hear which one you recommend and why. If someone has pictures of the Pro Rule installed with the stabilizer clips will you please post a picture of it?

    Thanks

Re: M-Y Wedge or Pro Rule (simtech)

i cant speak for the M-Y wedge but I have had the Pro Rule for 3 years with no problems at all. It is built out of very stout aluminum. the only downside I can think of is I find myself putting grease on the trim rods a little more often than I used to. the clips just clip on the hydraulic arms.

Also, the Lock n Haul is a great little unit. Stout but light weight and locks the motor so it does not turn.

Been using M-Ywedge for years and love it... Now even Yamaha sells/reccomends it.

you see that piston that it rides on, keep an eye on it because it will become loose and actually start backing out sooner or later. Also keep an eye on your lower motor mounts, mine are shot!
not going to start a pissing contest, this is what happened to me and is the reason I threw mine in the garbage, nothing else could/would have caused this.

I have used this for 5-6 years and see no issues to date... Dont blame other issues on the my wedge.

The question that I have is how does this save your transom? It seems like it only saves the trim pistons. If nothing goes down to the trailer how is stress removed from the transom if the motor bounces when you are driving down the road?

Re: M-Y Wedge or Pro Rule (21XDC)

like I said this is the ONLY thing that could have caused those issues..nothing else.. and for me what I have seen was enough for me to change and throw it in the garbage. To each his own, but that has been my experience with the product..
I bet your wedge dosen't look like the one in the pic if it's 5-6 years old, and how many months out of the year are you fishing/towing? I see you live in Michigian, I fish and tow my rig 12 months out of the year countless miles.

Re: M-Y Wedge or Pro Rule (simtech)

There is no need to remove stress from the transom "carrying" the wieght of the motor while trailering. Think about it. Your transome is carrying the entire force applyed by the motor that raises the bow of boat while on plane. This fulcrum effect is where we get lift. So if the transom is designed to carry the entire weight of the hull up in the air on the water, don't you think it is strong enough carry a 500lb motor?

The transome savers that rest on the trailer are actually transfering all the road shock from the road to the transome. Which will do more harm than holding the motor weight.

I used M-Y Wedge for 5 years without an issue! Would use nothing else!

And being in South Florida I don't miss many weekends.

How would that cause a lower motor mount failure? No way in heII!

Re: M-Y Wedge or Pro Rule (LaCajuninNC)

I like the beefiness of the metal ProRule support, but didn't like the need for the additional centering clips. For that reason I went with the Lock-N-Haul, which does a great job at supporting the motor, without need for any extra centering clips; motor doesn't turn a fraction of an inch with the Lock-N-Haul installed.

On a side note, my boat came with a pair of the "Original Outboard Motor Jacks," the cylindrical kind that fit over the pistons. They are just a plastic material, the ends of both sides were all chewed up, which is why I replaced them. I dunno if I'd go with any set that wasn't a good quality, heavy-duty metal.

I had not considered the lock-n-haul but after researching it there is a lot of support for it. Great.... the decision gets more difficult.
