Help, Thinking About Rebuilding Carbs Myself? 98' 150 Vmax

OK, so I am thinking about rebuilding the carbs on my 98 V-Max 150 by myself. I found the kit online and it only consists of 2 gaskets, 7 washers, a couple brass fittings and a couple springs. It does not seem like there is much to the actual rebuild.

Has any of you done this?

Please share your experiences with me… by doing this myself, I stand to save around $350.

    Thanks for the help!

Do you have an air compressor and a repair manual for your engine? You will need these to do it correctly. And there are a lot of other parts in the carbs, which you may not need, but they are in there.

Make sure you soak/chem dip the carbs as well. Like mentioned you should follow a shop manual or at least a spec sheet to do it right. It’s pretty straight forward but critical you set them up properly. If they are not set properly you can do some serious damage if you lean it out. After you run it immediately do a plug chop and see how each cylinder looks to ensure not overly rich or lean and then fine tune once at operating temp. I would also change the strainer filter and add a 10 micron filter between tank and bulb. If your fuel lines are old I would change all lines from the tank to the under cowl filter and between the filter and pumps. Use A1 ethanol resistant lines from the tank to the bulb and Yamaha or Mercury blue striped line from the output of the bulb to the engine.
