Get the largest capacity series 31 battery you can find. Deka AGM makes a great battery.

The starting battery that came with my SHO was to small to run all of the electronics and the livewells together so I replaced it with the Sears Platimun 31 and no more problems. Larry Brumley
here are the battery requirements
680 CCA (Cold Cranking Amps)
770 MCA (Marine Cranking Amps)
160 RC (Reserve Capacity)
Another note ** nothing but the motor should be rigged to this battery. recommendation is that any and all accessories should be run from a "house" battery.

Sorry I have no house on my boat. I think all marine dealers were told that you needed 1000 CA batteries for DI engines like Opti HPDI and ETEC so they apply it to everything. You may need it for those engines But SHO and EFI engines dont need it. Any group 27 or 31 will work fine.
OK, the information I posted is factual specs and the information about the motor being the only thing connected is recommended due to motor requirements.
You posted what the owners manual says. I looked it up also. The part about the house battery does not apply to bass boats. It applies to house boats or cuddys where light, radios, and other accesories will be run off the house battery if it goes dead then you can start the engine with it own battery. I was agreeing with you you dont need a 1000 CA battery to start a SHO. But that being said the bigger the better. I have used a group 27 deep cycle battery for the last 10 years as my starting battery. Replaced a couple times of course because nobody makes them that well.
