Squeeling Sound

I have a 2003 Yamaha 200 HP efi engine on my Skeeter (not an HPDI).

I have began to notice a squeeling noise when I let off after being on plane. Then today, I could hear it when cruising at around 30 mph on plane. I cannot hear it at wide open throttle.

It sounds almost like a fan belt lightly squeeling.

Any ideas what I should check or what it is?

Fill lower unit and see if its gone. My 99 efi had this problem late in the year one season. I change the lower unit oil as part of my winter service noise came back about the same time the next year. I found the lower unit low by 10 to 12 oz. When full the noise was gone. I was told that because Yamaha puts it prop shaft seals in both facing the same way small amounts of oil are lost during operation. So it sould be checked and filled a couple times a season.

most guys just grease it up
