    Tell me about a 97 200 Pro V

I'm looking at another champ that is powered by a 97 200 Pro V. What's the good, bad, and ugly on these? He has already unhooked the oiler and says it runs like a top? I guess I'll find out this week, but I nor any of my friends have had a yamaha from this generation and I was looking for some opinions from those who have had them.

    Thanks,

    Jon

I have a 175 Pro V with the oil injection disabled. These motors are very strong and reliable. The only drawbacks are that a. They LOVE gas and b. They are a little fusy on cold mornings when you start them up for the first time or if you fished a couple hours w/out running the motor on a cold day.

I have a 1990 150 ProV with the oil injection still operational. It is pretty much all original and it runs like a TOP! It's not even really that fussy on cold morning since I pulled apart the carbs and cleaned them.

And yes, if you run her wide open she will create a whirlpool in the gas tank!

I ran a 94 ProV 150 that I bought used in 2003. Ran it alot for 6 seasons and it never missed a beat. It too had the precision blend oil injection and I never had any issues whatsoever.

The Pro V and the Merc XR 2,4,6 are some tough built motors and as bullet proof as they get . Easy to maint. and less parts to go wroung but do use a a litter more gas .

I ran a 92 V4 130 with precision blend for 16 years. Basically same as ProV 130 except motor mounts and lower unit gearing. Great engine that never missed a beat. I miss the simplicity compared to my HPDI with 1000 filters

I would make sure all fuel lines are up to snuff and install a 10 micron between the tank and primer bulb. As long as compression and all vitals are good you will have one hell of an engine.

As mentioned, you won't drive by many gas pumps without stopping....but rock solid motors.
