First the motor is an OX66 200 3.1L
Recently I had some work done on my motor because my motors overheat alarm went of at idle within 10-12 minutes of me dropping it off the trailer while I was idling out of a no wake zone. The motor was showing water coming out the back like normal but I shut the motor down ayway and brought it into the shop to have it looked at immediately. I asked them to check the impeller because I recently puchased the boat (past 6-7 months) and didnt know if it has been changed so wanted to get it done any way.
The shop replaced the cover of my water pump because it had a small "nick" in the inside of it and the impeller because the impeller because it looked a bit worn.
They test drove the boat at idle for 5-10 minutes and nothing happened as far as alarms, called me and said ok alls good come get it. I had them change the fuel filter as well just for good measure since it was time.
My questions are:
1: Is there anything else that I should check / replace prior to putting it on the water that may cause this situation or would help improve my chances of this not happening again?
2: How can I verify that my motor is in fact getting oil from the reservoir? I know I have a low oil light / alarm, but is there an alarm if the pump is not getting oil to the motor?
I apologize for my ignorance in this area. My only previous experience with outboards has been with either Evinrudes which have different monitoring systems or the Mercury systems that also could monitor this information.
Thanks in advance for any information that could help.
