2002 Yamaha 150 carb motor any good?

Im looking at buying a boat with a 2002 Yamaha 150 carbed motor. I don't have any experience with Yamaha outboards so I'd like to know if this is a good/reliable motor? By the looks of the boat, I'm guessing it has a bunch of hours on it. Anything besides compression that I should pay particular attention to before handing over the money?

I have an 06. Have not had a bit of trouble with it. From what I have heard they are very reliable motors. They do like to drink the gas.

i have an 04 i bought brand new. routine maintenance and its been trouble free.

I had a 2003, other than being a tad stuborn on the first start up on cold mornings, it was flawless.

Bulletproof motors....have it checked out and go for it....

You won't find many complaints from it....except the cold starting, but that's with any carbed motor you buy.

You will love your carbed Yammi I ran a 94 ProV 150 for six years and as stated it was a little cranky on a cold morning but thats to be expected with a carbed.

We had a carb'd 150 Vmax on our Pathfinder 2200V at work when it was seized. That motor ran like a scalded dog. My only complaints were the cold starting and the smoking while running Yamalube. We repowered with an F225 sport.

The 150 was very reliable with regular maintenance.

Generally all 150s are solid...the pros ran them for years and they have been around a long time...can always soup up that 150 carb easily with HyTech and run 65 all day long.

simplicity is often a beautiful thing.....Great motors IMHO

P.S....and they don't usually do too bad on fuel below 4500 rpm's either.
