    1995 200 Pro-V

Ok, I originally thought I had a bad water pressure gauge. It stayed at zero all the time, not even twitching. But when I got the new one in today, it wouldn't do anything, either. I disconnected the tube from the gauge and ran the motor on muffs in the yard, and no watr came out...I could feel a little air, but not much. I also unscrewed the fitting off of the motor and ran it, but no water there, either. But once I turned off the motor, and looked at it scratching my head, I could see a little steam coming out of the hole where that fitting was.
So, it's (probably) not the gauge, and the tube is clear. The motor pees just fine, and I've run it pretty hard for 20-30 minutes at a time out on the water without any problems, so I'm 99% sure I don't have a water pump problem or anything like that because the motor doesn't overheat. There's just no water making it up to the outlet for the gauge. What can I do from here? Thanks

On the hose, you'll get very little psi indicated. The wp gauge is a result of pressure when the lu moves thru the water more than the impeller. Impeler is only good for 3 to 5 psi on a good day. There should be either a small hole in the front of the lu that connect thru tubing to the gauge or the gauge connects on top of the head, most likely. Take the tube off at the motor end and either use air or water to pressure to about 20 3 and watch the gauge. If the needle moves, all that part is good, look for the problem elsewhere. You might have a bad poppit valve. If they are stuck open, you won't build pressure. Do you get a pee stream when the boat is in the water?

Yes, I get a good stream both in the water and with the muffs on, and I can feel a little air coming out of the water pressure tube when I disconnect it from the gauge. I'm not getting any water out of the fitting at the top of the head where the tube connects...even if the hose will only get me 3-5 PSI, I should have some water there, right? But it stays bone dry.
Somebody mentioned to me just a few minutes ago that there may be a fitting on the block that you can screw the hose straight into to get water to the engine without even having to use the muffs. Never heard of this before...is it true?

On my 300 Yamaha, there is a hose fitting on the Left side screwed to the underside of the cowling. That is the fitting they are talking about unscrew it and hook a water hose onto the piece you pull off the cowling.

Aha...good deal. After a little online research, I don't think I'm supposed to run the engine with just that hooked up, am I? Thanks for the help.

Might have one on your 95 model as well.

You can run it at an idle, maybe up a little higher, but I wouldn't suggest running it for very long above an idle on that hose.
