Re: SHO me your hours (Sktr#22)

I talked to my dealer Monday in Beaumont, and I think he's an honest guy, and he said there have been no issues so far. I'm still gonna wait.

Larry did you have change anything to install the SHO on your boat? I have one on order from my local dealer. Just wanted to know if it was a plug and play deal.

Re: SHO me your hours (carp_mstr)

I saw this thread and figured I would give you guys my observation. First I don't have the "sho". What I do have is the 4.2l "offshore " 225hp. I have 20 hours so far and can not say enough good about this engine. Yamaha set out to make a lighter stronger and more efficient outboard. To date what they have said is true IMO. If this engine holds up over the coarse of time it will be the bench mark of the outboard industry. One ? for you guys. I have a 21M that I'm running right now. I'm only getting 5400 rpm at 57.5 mph (gps). Yami suggests running the SDS saltwater series II which are back ordered right now. Do you think a 19 pitch would be better for me? Any info you have would be apprciated.

Re: SHO me your hours (hooken203)

I think everything on hook ups is the same on the Sho as on the HPDI. so everything should work. My was factory rigged but flyswatter had a Pantera that he swapped out I think a HPDI for an SHO and he can better answer your question. Larry Brumley

    Larry-
The offshore is the same as the "sho" it's a fourstroke just has a 25 inch shaft and a different gear case. Same top end though. It was manufactured May of 2010. I just took delivery of it 3 weeks ago.

    Thanks

I got a hair over 20 hours on mine. Just dropped it off this morning for the 20 hour service. NO problems thus far.

I have one ordered on a new Shearwater bay boat. A buddy has one with 25 hrs - no issues, except for the 3 TSBs noted below.

BUT, I have seen 'reports' of tech svc bulletins (TSB) to address some minor issues:
    1) LU water pickup mods
    2) Extreme cold water operation 'tweak' - thermostats maybe?
    3) Mod to Thermostat seals to minimize corrosion

And then the improper torquing of Merc props (needs 80# or so) that leads to thrust assembly chatter on shaft that has resulted in sheared prop shafts.

Have you guys heard the same stuff, or received notice of the TSB issues?
