does any one know it's purpose and what will happen if i block it off in the summer to see if that will get my water pressure up?the only thing i can see it will do is bypass water if for some reason you got to much pressure.i don't think that will be a problem in the summer but i could be wrong.this is my first yamaha and second power head.any ideas and thanks again
You got the purpose of the poppit valve right, but don't know if you will harm the motor if you block it off. Is your motor getting hot. My water pressure was only 10 to 12 psi when my poppit valve stuck open with sand and gravel, but my water temp was still only 127 to 130 with that low of pressure and never got hot anytime. How low is your water pressure?
my pres is 10 or 12 at wot.i have a temp gauge and it says it is not running any hotter than when it had 15 or 18 lbs of pres.the thing that bothers me is last time if i was running wot and stopped and cut it off to fish you could hear a sizzling sound coming from the motor.is not doing that now.i didn't have a temp gauge then so i don't know if it was running hotter than it is now.out of warranty and don't want to hurt it if you know what i mean.thanks
Don't second guess the engineers and don't fix what ain't broke. Your water pressure is a function of the current heat. It is happening to all of us in the south. It won't hurt a thing to go in there and make sure the poppet and the t-stats are clean and functioning, but don't defeat them, you will be asking for trouble.
As long as your not getting an alarm you are fine.Its just the very warm water tempts causing your low psi.Your stats stay wide open during this time of year because of the heat.
