    LU question

I bought a used 2001 Javelin with a 90HP Johnson on it late last year. When I put it away for the winter and changed the lower lube it looked kinda creamy...no water came out...but it didn't look good. The motor had set all summer..and the lube was lubrimatic...and one of the plug gaskets was kinda crappy...so I changed the fluid. This year I have about 2 hrs time on it...checked the fluid again..and it it SLIGHTLY milky. If you put a few drops of it next to fresh fluid you can see a little difference...but again no actual water. Could this just be condensation??

All the dealers I have talked to in the area want at least 3-4 weeks just to check it out.....Should I call it out of service and miss 3-4 weeks of spring bass fishing?????? Or would I be ok to run it and monitor it frequently?

    Thx in advance.

It's time to get it resealed. It's not worth taking a chance . There are components that will rust in the gearcase. Rust causes pitting. Pitting causes bearing failure, gear failure, and overheating of the case. Have them put a new water pump in it while its down.

What lube did you use this time?

If there is water in the lube it will be the first thing to run out when the lower drain screw is removed.

If you use Lubrimatic it will look milky after you run it, change to BRP Ultra HPF-XR and run it again, then check the lube.

If your using ultra and it's off color, get it sealed. The only exception would be if you just ran it hard and checked it right there on the ramp. Even then , the air bubbles are few, the color stays the same. It's good stuff.

Let it sit over night before you check it, as Rusty says, the water will run out first. If you do not actually see water, keep checking it. Maybe you could get a tech just to pressure/ vacuum test it if you took it to them with no lube in it. I do this with my customers some times, it's easier on me, a peace of mind for them. Being a 2001, it's gotta be getting close to a reseal job, waterpump too if you do not know when it was done last.
