    1996 Pro-V 200 problems

Fished all day and the engine ran normal all day until I tried to come in to the ramp. I started it up and everything was normal. I floored the hotfoot and the motor bogged down and died. It has never done that before. I switched fuel tanks and pumped up the bubble. I started it up and punched it and it died again. I had to idle back to the truck which was about 6 miles and the motor sounds fine when it is idling. It will idle up to 1200 rpm but it wont go any higher than that. When I tried to idle faster than that the engine starts bogging down and will die if I dont let off the gas. Does anyone have a clue what the problem might be? Thanks for any help.

It could be you need new fuel pumps. Have they ever been replaced? I'm getting ready to replace mine and it looks like http://www.boats.net has the best prices.

Will the boat still rev up when it is not in gear with bad fuel pumps. There is not a problem until It is in gear and I put the gas to it.

Have you checked that the timing advance arm is still attached to the throttle arm?

This sounds exactly like the timing is not advancing with the throttle as you throttle up. The motor will bog bad and not rev up under load.

I have checked that and it seems to be working fine.

Did you follow Greg Hind's instructions about testing the low pressure fuel pumps? They are pinned to the top of the page. Here's what I would suggest.

    1. Check the fuel lines and fuel bulb.
    2. Check the low pressure fuel pumps per the instructions mentioned above.
    3. Clean or replace all of the filters.
    4. Check the TPS setting.

    Re: 1996 Pro-V 200 problems (BuzzB8)

I took the boat into HYDRO TEC this morning and they looked it over. When they pulled the plugs out they were in pretty bad shape. Changed them out and it took care of the problem. The plugs were just a month old so I never thought of them as a possibity. They said that a lot of motors have to have the plugs changed right after break in. I just didn't know that they could get carbon that bad that quick. Anyway thanks to all for the help!!!!!!!!!!
