    Running and HPDI on muffs

I cannot for the life of me get this thing seated and get it to pump water. Whats the trick, I am headed to Havasu for a week and want to assure I have a good water pump.

At the very worst how hard is it to replace a waterpump if need be?

Also erratic idle but its been sitting since fall. I put in marine stabil and ethanol treater. Also did a normal winterization.

Any help is appreciated. Motor is a 2008 250 Series 2 has about 48 hours onit.

are you using the ear muff style, or the one made for the hpdi? I use the one made for the hpdi, and I still have trouble getting it to pick up water. It leaks too bad. Mine won't show pressure running on a hose unless I rev it up a little. Changing the waterpump is easy, I think there is a thread with pictures.

Your best bet is to put it in the water before the trip and check everything. Better than having problems when you get there.

All you need do is hook the garden hose to it and let it idle.If your trying to check water pressure i would go put in in the water and drive it a bit.

the yami tech at the dealer i go to always puts the muffs on and hooks a hose to the fresh water flush up top. He says this is really necessary to ensure that you are getting enough water to all parts of the motor. I've never had any problem getting mine to "pee" just fine when running on the muffs with the flush hose hooked up too.

Mine will run hot if just running on the muffs. I've got to use 2 hoses.

I drove to Havasu in 03. I would be laughed out of town if I drove up with my boat. Can you still buy 103 leaded at the pump?

Depending on which lower unit you got, you may have to get the cover/strap to plug up the pickup holes on the bullet of the nosecone. If all else fails, THE BEST way to run a motor on land is to get a 50 gal plastic drum, cut it 1/2-3/4 from the bottom ( creating your own tempary "lake"), lower the motor into it, fill the tub so theat the entire lower unit is submerged ( as if it where in a lake) and start the motor. If it doesn't pee, try take a air hose and air gun and blow up the pee outlet. It may be plugged up. Usually one or two good blast of air will free anything up there and unplug it allowing water to flow out the pee hole. If it doesn't than your water pump is probably is shot and needs replacing.
