    Yamaha 4 stroke oil

What are you guys putting in your Yammy 4 strokes? I have a Yamaha 150 and I am interested to see what everyone else is using.

    Thanks!

Re: Yamaha 4 stroke oil (gabes1)

I use the yamaha 4 stroke oil. They say you can use automotive oil but the difference in price just use the yamaha oil IMO.

I've only used Yamaha 4 stroke oil in my F225 so far, too. It's not overly expensive compared to other quality oils, so why not?

As an aside, I find it interesting that they don't call for synthetic oils. I'm also big into dirt bikes and oil wars rage on and on in those forums about syn vs non-syn. I kind of laugh when they say "why would you use a cheap oil in such an expensive motor" when I think about Yamaha spec'ing a non-syn oil in my $22k+ outboard! I can buy 3 or 4 brand new dirt bikes for that money.

Re: Yamaha 4 stroke oil (jejb)

Yamaha 4M... I used Castrol on one cycle. I was going to use synthetic, but a Yamaha tech guy told me to use the 4M because it had certain additives and detergents the 4 strokes need... he also prefaced that by saying he was NOT trying to sell me some oil, if he didn't believe it, he'd have told me so...

with that said, there are a couple different filter choices though...

Use Yamaha 4M, Like my service guy says, "Your car isn't designed to run 6000 RPM's." I am even running the 4M in my car and it doesn't use a drop and the oil is still clean after 4500 miles and the car has over 150,000 miles on it. Just some food for thought.

Not to get into an oil debate, but some cars do run that high, and higher. Our WRX loves to go to 6k+ rpms. Maybe I should be running 4M in it, too!

I agree, but most aren't designed to and don't run 6000 for 30 minutes to an hour like the outboards do. But Yamaha 4M does the trick even in my car too, and yes my Toyota has been over 6000 but not for long. I bet you don't run cheap oil in that car either.

Why skimp on the oil...especially for a 4-stroke...it's not like you are buying a gallon every month or less...
