    Remember Back a Couple Months Ago...

    ...when I added a post saying that the big block (3.3) litres were going away? Oh, and someone referred to me as an (edit)...

    I went ahead and deleted my post to save any more controversy, but I (and my source, from Kennesaw, GA) were dead-on. After December 31, 2009, Yamaha will not be producing any 3.3 litre engines. Only engines already made for 2010 will be sold. Here's the quote:

    "For those that don’t know, 2-strokes are going away. Manufacturers will stop producing 2-strokes very soon because of EPA regulations. In fact, Yamaha said only the 150 and 175 2-strokes will remain after January 1, 2010. The dealers who already have the other 2-strokes can continue to sell them, but no more are going to be manufactured."

    Just because a dealer has them on the dealer list doesn't mean they will still be made! Yamaha is building the last of the 3.3's right now.

    How's that crow taste???

    Don't sweat it Jerry. There's tons of "experts" behind a keyboard that know more than the experts in real life. I take you as a real-life expert.

    I don't think I'd go that far if I were you. No expert here, just someone who likes to get on here at least twice a day and maybe with a little luck, answer a question or two.

    100% of the time, you guys do a superb job at getting answers for the few of us who need help. We all appreciate it!

    Thanks

    Re: Remember Back a Couple Months Ago... (BuzzB8)

    That may be the case for Yamaha. What is Evinrude going to do? They are ALL 2-stroke. My guess is they will adapt with the times with their 2-Strokes. I am tasting that crow for the stanpoint of I really wasn't sure they couldreduce THAT much weight out of the new 4-Stroke and wasn't sure the performance would be there. They did and thats awesome. (now we need to see real world results on all aspects)
    And... They ARE going to be offering HPDI and the SHO simultaniously for a "model" year and are not cut and dry dropping one for the other...
    Which was my point of contention if in fact this new motor was coming out.

    Jerry, where did you come up with that quote, I have looked all over Yamaha sites and can not find it anywhere. Is this just another rumor or have you found a Yamaha site that actually states what you have quoted? If I need to eat crow, that is no problem, but I want to see the proof in the pudding first. Sort of like "Straight From The Horse's Mouth"

    It's a quote from FLW Magazine. It's on page six of the post above this one, next to last paragraph. The original info I got (that I tried to post back in October) came from Yamaha Corp. Trust me, it didn't come from a dealer.

    By the way, did you ever get your gauges fixed? I did tell you, didn't I (can't remember) that my friend's Z20 gauges will not touch needle to needle? I had them lined-up perfectly, and there's a nice gap between the water pressure needle tip and the bottom of the tach tip.

    I never stated thay they wouldn't offer the 3.3 for 2010, just that as of December 31, they wouldn't be building them. Remember, they're building the 2010 models as we speak.

    If someone were to wait until the 2011 model boats come out, they'll be getting a 2011 4 stroke...or a 2010 HPDI.

    Yea, buddy you did get back to me on that, and I appreciate it. No I can't get any satisfaction out of Ranger, so I'm just going to replace that gage with the Lowrance LMF-400 gage and read the RPMS and water pressure off of that gage. Just don't know why mind hit each other at the RPMS and water pressure we discussed. I don't see a crow to eat on Big Al's emotions board so I suppose I'll just Have a good on buddy.

    And I'm sure there'll be HPDI's around for a few years to come. My F225 I bought in June was manufactured in Dec 07.

    Well, I know you've helped me out alot in the last year, as I learned and got to know my VMAX before it blew. I appreciate it. Now that motor is history, and I'm learning and getting to know my Sport...

    Re: Remember Back a Couple Months Ago... (BuzzB8)

    Keep the early info coming. I learned long ago where there is smoke there is fire I ran my 225 series 2 yesterday and it ran flawlessly. I sure hope yamaha gets it right with these new engines. I have a 250 four stroke on my bay boat. While it is a great engine it would not cut it on a bass hull. We shall see.

    Re: Remember Back a Couple Months Ago... (esoxfly)

    Actually a lot of the Opti's are now 3 Star. All except the Racing Division 225-300xs (not Sport Xs...they are 3 star), 115 & 200 Proxs.

    Could not find any CARB ratings on the Verado's ????

    2 star

    Absolutely. Any two-star outboard engine can be sold in California as long as the engine manufacturer meets the corporate average plan for the certification year with the mix of outboard product the manufacturer sells into California. For example, Mercury maintains a positive corporate average that is carefully managed to ensure dealers in California can continue to sell a full range of outboard engines, including Verado.

    Exactly right. The government is not going around telling manufacturers they can or cannot make 2 stroke engines. The product line as a whole has to meet emissions levels not individual engines or technologies that differ by manufacture.

    Opti = 3 star
    Etec = 3 Star
    HPDI = 2 Star
    Yamaha 4 stroke = 3 star
    Verado = 2 Star
    Suzuki = 3 Star

    Yamaha could continue to manufacture the HPDI if they chose to do so as long as their product line met the overall level. Looks like they have chosen not to. My guess is they feel they have a better mousetrap. Its not because the government is making them to quit manufacturing 2 strokes however.
