    Quick Question

Just a quick question. I've got a 99 150 V-Max with a 25-M prop. I almost always run 5200rpms at WOT. I notice sometimes that I tend to run higher rpms than what I consider normal (5200).

I've had it run at 5500 at WOT, with no different setup than normal, normal load, and normal water temp. Today it got up to 5800, and it got me a bit worried that she's gonna blow. She sounded darn good though...

Anyone else have this issue? Should I be worried. For what it's worth, I don't really see a whole lot of difference when I run seafoam..And I've been using the same kind of oil for a while now. Thanks..

    Re: Quick Question (jam_2087)

I have the same year motor and prop. Normal rpm's for that motor is 5500. Not sure why you hit 5800 if you didn't change anything (I.E. raise the motor ). Could be the cooler weather. I don't think 5800 will hurt it though, they like to be wound out. I hit 5700 alot and have never had a problem.

Just a thought on the xtra rpm's, could be a prop hub starting to slip, that is if your 25M is a solid hub prop.

Yeh I'll check that out. It's not like the rpms just jump up and then shoot back down...I'm making a run and it just steadily climbs up. It isn't the cooler weather, yesterday was the hottest tournament I've fished all year.

With the rpm increase you should also notice the speed increase. If speed didn’t go up I would take a close look at the tachometer before anything else. BTW your motor can be turned safely up to 6100 rpm

    Re: Quick Question (Rich Z)

Yeh I didn't have my GPS on, speedo doesn't work..but I could tell I was moving faster than normal. I just wish it would do it when I'm by myself with 1/4 tank..lol I see a new top speed coming in the near future..

I figured the motor could take some higher RPM's, it's just got me a bit worried to see it jump up.
