Can you change the shaft length on an engine?!?!

So this may be a dumb question, but I haven't been able to find anything on this subject. That may be because it's not possible. Anyhow, my new to me Ranger was repowered with a 25" shaft yamaha 150. The owner put a 6" jackplate on there to try and remedy the drag, but I feel like I can't get the boat set up optimally. Is it possible to switch this to a 20" shaft? If so, is it reasonable or should I just sell this engine and repower?

    Thanks!

Too much trouble even if you could. If you can sell the one you got, then repower and get what you want

I should have mentioned that I don't have to pay much for labor. A close friend is a certified Yamaha mechanic.

Give HT a call. They can shorten your mid but it may be more cost effective to buy a blown motor and put your power head on it.
To do it yourself you will need a mid and a new drive shaft.

HT? The engine needs a new shift rod anyways, so the whole mid is coming off as well as the power head. I'm pretty short on money, so I'd like to be as frugal as possible, while still doing it right.

Thanks for the answers so far!!!

Hydro Tec, you can find them on the High Performance page.
I would think that the cheapest way would find a blown motor that is being parted out.

sweet! Thanks for the link guys!!

I'm gonna talk to them and see how much it would be. After a lot of thinking, I'd rather put a newer engine on the boat than drop a ton into making the one I have what I want.
Also, my engine is a 150, and the max rating for my boat is 175. I think I'd like to have the max on there to really tweak out the high speed.
