    '05 175 HPDI info please

As some of you guys might have read in my other post on the Skeeter board ( http://www.bbcboards.net...ease ) ...... I am looking into buying an '05 Skeeter ZX190 w/ 175 HPDI.

I know very little about the 150/175 HPDI. I'm looking for any information as far as what I need to look for (upgrades, stay-away's, etc) and any other information you can think of would be much appreciated. We are testing out this boat Saturday, what kind of idle rpm's should I see? Max rpm's? Water pressure minimum at WOT???

Also the extent of Yamaha experience I have is my dad's '91 Pro-V 150. I know it's a good motor, I remember it blowing on me in about '95, and I remember we put another powerhead on it and had a Hydrotec Phase I (or was it II I can't remember) kit put on it. I'm familiar with it's fuel consumption. How would this HPDI compare?????

Thanks for any information/ advice that you might have.

Well to answer my own question as to what I've found so far .....

water pressure needs to be at least 15psi ..... most are seeing 20-25 .... some are seeing 30 ....... and if ever it drops it's either 80 degree water temps or I need to check the poppet valve (whatever that is) and flush the cooling system for junk. After all of this, then suspect the water pump.

WOT is 5500 rpm's according to an '04 brochure I have at home, thus I'm assuming it's the same for '05, eventhought I see alot of you guys turning yours a little higher.

Fuel Consuption has been discribed as 'sipping tea' compared to 'chugging 6pk's ' like my old Johnson 200 Venom.

I'm laughing because to make HP, an engine has to drink. If you stay out of the gas, it will do you good, but WOT will consume mass quantities!

There's some "pinned" stuff at the top of this page to see about the poppet valve. Basically, a couple pieces of sand can cause the pressure to drop a little and it will spook you! It's an easy fix to clean, just takes a little of your time.

Almost everyone with the HPDI and the OX66 are up in the upper 50's for RPM's. Let that baby eat!

I know what you mean ...... that 200 Venom was terrible on gas. I had a partner that had a very similar boat but with a 200 BRP Ficht, that sucker got atleast twice the fuel mileage. I'm really hoping this Skeeter w/HPDI will be even better than my dad's old Pro-V (really and truely it's not bad on fuel in my opinion).

I sent you an email and an IM ..... holler at me PLEASE if you get a chance.

    Thanks !

Something you'll notice quickly is if you run at wot a lot you will use a lot of gas AND a lot of oil. However this is true for all motors but yammies seem to use more oil than other manufactures. If you run at 3500-4000rpms you'll use a lot less gas and oil but hey you don't go as fast so it's a trade off

    Re: '05 175 HPDI info please (Ranger391v)

Ended up buying the boat ! We took it out yesterday for the first time (other than test drive) and MAN what a boat and what a motor ! Since this is the Yamaha forum, I'll leave this post for the motor.

IT SIPS ........ compared to my old '94 Johnson 200 Venom. I know you guys keep saying 'keep your foot out, it doesn't drink' ........ true. But comparing the 2 engines and how I drive normally (3500-4000 rpm's), I couldn't believe how little gas we burned. It was also nice not having to choke it at the ramp but rather just turn a key.

I got tons of water pressure (18psi @ 3500 and 23'ish at 5000), thus with the jackplate set kinda low, it's time to raise it to the 1.25" recommended by Skeeter.

Thanks Jerrry for all your help and emails.
