Wire assignment to lower oil pump?!?

Hi I recently bought an '87 Yamaha 200hp Precision Blend(200 ETLH). I mixed the oil to make sure I didnt blow it up, and am planning on marking the res to see if oil level changes while running. I noticed that there are 3 wires coming from bottom of lower res in the boat( that arent hooked to anything). Im assuming they are to the pump for the lower res. Supposedly, that pump refills the upper res when the level gets low. If this is correct, i'll leave it unhooked while im testing the oil consumption, but how should i hook up those wires when im done? There is a Brown, Brown w/ white stripe, and a black wire. If i had to guess id say both browns to + and black to -. But i'd rather not guess. Anyone know?

    Thanks
    Scrap

Re: Wire assignment to lower oil pump?!? (scrapiron)

I sent you an IM, but I'll post here also.

In my 25 year history of owning Yamaha engines, I've had more problems with oil sensors than any other items.

I'm just taking a guess here, but I think the previous owner had sensor problems and didn't replace the oil sensor box/main oil tank sensor. (On my old '85 ProV 150, I replaced those components at least three times in 12 years.) He/she had an alarm and just bypassed the oil system. Once the sensor/box fail, the engine goes into a survival mode, it automatically reduces the engine RPM's to 2,000. My guess is that someone completely bypassed the precision blend system and mixed oil with gasoline.

Probably somewhere in the bilge area, there should be the matching wires to the ones coming from the main tank. Until those wires are located, and connected, the sensors won't be able to communicate.
