    Help with 150 PRO-V

I Have a 1986 Yamaha 150 PRO-V. It runs and revs great with ear muffs on out of the water But when I put it in the water and give it gas it won't rev under a load. any Ideas what it might be? Took it to a shop and they want to rebuild my carbs for $700 bucks. I compleatly cleaned the carbs and they looked fine to me.

i would rebuild the fuel pumps first and go from there. much cheaper and you can do it yourself

My 1990 had the same problem. I broke the carbs down completely, cleaned them and put them back together and now it works like a champ. You may want to go ahead and replace the fuel pumps while you're at it just to rule them out. When I took my carbs apart I found a lot of the small holes in the nozzles/jets clogged. Just soak them in carb cleaner real good and maybe even use a small piece of wire brush wire to clean them. Also, be careful when you put it back together not to roll any of the small o-rings(if it has them). Just put a little oil on them before you reinstall them. My motor had sat for years when I bought it so I had a lot of dirt in the fuel system and carbs. I ended up pulling my carbs off 3 times before I finally had it all worked out. It's definitely do-able though and for a lot less than $700. If you need carb rebuild kits you can get genuine Yamaha parts from boats.net.
