cant stand the bad gas problem

I was fishing a tournament the other day and motor ran like a top all day. no problems at all. right before weigh in a was leaving my spot and stomped on the gas peddle and the motor studdered and almost shut off. i sat the for a few seconds and let it idle and give it some gas to clear out the bad gas then stomped it again and it was fine. boy i wish they would just cut out the ethynol. i cant stand that stuff.

That doesn't sound like a gas problem.

Check your primer ball for firmness before you start up next time.

If it isn't that then it is time to start checking pumps, diaphrams, filters etc.

Bad gas would cause other issues, but shouldn't run fine, then crap out, then run fine again.

What he is experiencing is certainly a symptom of bad fuel. This is especially true with blended fuel (E-10). Phase separation occurs where the fuel separates from the alcohol. Under these conditions alcohol attracts water that may pass through the system resulting in a misfire or hesitation. The engine then may run fine as non contaminated fuel is being fed through the system. It may be other problems you have but it may also be fuel.

If you are not running a 10 Micron filter I would install one.

put the boat in the water today. and it ran fine. i just think i had some bad fuel. i just had all my fuel pumps and all changed in the last 6 to 8 months. I love my yamaha. Only thing i wish is that it was the hpdi so i could get some better fuel milage because i usually make long runs and the ox66 is not the best on fuel.

If you are not doing so already, start using StaBil Marine in your gas with each gas added. I have been using it since it hit the market last year, and before that I used StarTron enzyme. I topped off the tank for winter storage and no problems in the spring. The StaBil Marine is better. Go on their web site and look at the corrosion test results with their product. Impressive.
